When you plan to retire here, Belize weather is a necessary bit of information. After all, most people want to spend their retirement someplace where they can be comfortable right? As an overall term to describe the climate here it’s best to classify Belize as having a subtropical climate. The good news is that most of the time, Belize is very comfortable.

The weather here can be humid, with the country’s humidity averaging about 83 percent for most of the year. This might sound a bit harsh, but, it’s actually not as bad as it may seem. The humidity it is only high and uncomfortable during the afternoon hours during the rainy season.

You will feel the humidity most along the coastal beaches. In the mountains you will likely not feel it at all. The cool breezes coming in off the water help to make the weather more moderate and comfortable. That is the “norm” here. The winds are very normal and during the months of June, July and August, you will see very good boating weather.

As for temperatures, the rate for Belize weather is from 50°F to 95°F (10°C to 35°C). The annual average temperature is 79°F (26°C). The winter season is November, December and January and temperatures will dip to about 70°F (21°C). Highs happen in May through September. Temperatures during that time will reach an average of 81°F (27°C). There is a difference in the temperatures based on your overall location, too. In the mountain regions, expect to see temperatures several degrees lower especially on the coldest of nights. Temperatures in Cayo, for example, can reach as low as 46°F (8°C).

The other differences in the Belize climate have to do with the amount of rain that the country gets. For example, January through April, sometimes May you will see very minimal rain, especially in the North and Central regions. Move more south and you will see a shorter dry season, usually just February through April.

Weather Warning!

Hurricanes are a threat to Belize weather. There is no way to predict if a hurricane will hit while you are in Belize, but it is in one of the more violent weather patterns. Usually, hurricanes do not hit full on. The last large devastating hurricane in Belize happened in 1978.

Belize weather is still very calm and most often comfortable. Many find the annual average temperature in the high 70’s (26°C) to be the perfect compliment to their retirement years.
