What Sort of Italy Housing is Available?

Italy housing is available in so many variations that you may feel overwhelmed with the idea of making your choice. Just like in the United States, there are incredible opportunities of choosing between a wide variety of housing types, styles, and locations. You can enjoy your privacy in a nice country villa or dive into the hustle and bustle of the urban life. Italy offers you the perfect housing for your retirement needs.

When considering Italy housing, the first thing you should think about is your personal tastes and wish list for the necessities, amenities, and conveniences that are important to you.

Villas in the country are quiet locations and may be perfect for your retirement in Italy.

In the rural areas, you would be away from the noise and faster pace of the city, with the added benefit of having a great amount of privacy.

You’ll also have the option of trying your hand at farming, ranching, or owning a private vineyard. If you choose to live here remember to stock up when you go to the market because you won’t have a convenience store on every corner and may have to make quite a drive!
Italy housing in the city can include small houses and apartments that offer close companionship with neighbors. These apartments may be small, and consist of a single room with a kitchenette or two rooms – a living area and a bedroom. If you like privacy, you will have to pay a bit of a premium to have your own private bathroom, since a number of apartment buildings are much like a hostel and will share bathrooms among floors.

If you choose Italy housing in one of the satellite towns of these urban areas, you may find that prices are lower and the choices are less limited. The advantages of a town are you can afford the privacy you want while still being able to access the conveniences of a large city, such as markets and cafes that are within walking distance.

In one of these areas that are in less demand, you will find a variety of housing types, ranging from small villas and apartments, to large houses. A smaller house may be an ideal choice since it is affordable and offers you room for privacy while not being too large for you to keep up with. After all, retirement should be enjoyable, and you shouldn’t have to spend a lot of time on cleaning and upkeep of your new home in Italy!

Hi, My mom and I very much want to move to Italy. The problem is we only get U.S. Social Security, so our incomes are extremely low. If possible, we would like to move to Rome, or even someplace like Le Marche that is accessible to public transportation to Rome.) as it’s so beautiful, full of art and culture and we would not need a car there. Could you please let us know of any extremely low income apartment rentals? (Is there any very low income government subsidized or senior housing?) My mother is 85 years old so time is of the essence. We would surely be very, very appreciative of any assistance you could give us. Thank you very much. Sincerely, D.S.

Hi D.S. I will have a look and see what I can dig up for you. I don’t know anything off hand in Italy, but for most other countries the way to find cheap and good housing is to actually go to the place and start looking there. If you are looking for a place on the internet you’re only going to be getting a faction of the results that are actually out there.

Once you are in Italy, then you would do well to contact with some expat groups and start to meet people as they may have leads on apartments that fit what you are looking for.

But – like I said, I’ll see what I can dig up here for you. I was just reading about Le Marche in AARP Magazine and it sounds like a really great place – the ‘new’ Tuscany 🙂 Best wishes, Mitch
